When I first heard the phrase “Quiet Time,” I was so confused! It sounded like a timeout for being in trouble. Then I learned that it was a time set aside to commune with God and study His Word. In the fast pace of life, we forget about many things and even about people. We also forget God. We all need a time to go before God to listen, learn and communicate. We are human! We must never forget Him; we must always seek Him.
Quiet Time in the Bible…
In Matthew 14, Jesus withdrew to a mountain by himself. He had just finished feeding over 5000! This was by far one of His greatest miracles. They wanted to crown Him king, but instead, he left the crowd and his disciples to pray. He went aside to commune with His Father. He spent time praying.
Think about Paul. After he was saved, he went into the wilderness to learn and to be refreshed by Jesus. Here is one of the greatest minds of his time who sat at the feet of Jesus to learn.
Time and time again, Moses took time to commune with God. He was the man who led a nation out of slavery. He was the man who raised his staff and God parted the Red Sea and destroyed the Egyptian army. He was the one who stopped God’s wrath. He had a time of quietness before the Lord.
How about Daniel? This man prayed before the Lord three times a day, even at the cost of his life. God did great acts through mighty men who were first on their knees. It is interesting that there is one common denominator amongst these individuals: humanity.
Teaching of Quiet Time…
Jesus, Paul and Moses were human. They were confined to human understanding and condition. Jesus experienced humanity. Yes, He was God! However, in a miraculous way, He was fully God and man. He would not be human if He did not experience life as we do. He, just like Paul and Moses, needed time with Almighty God! In Psalm 1, David, one of the greatest songwriters, said that it is the godly man who delights in the law. In Psalm 5, David took time in the morning to sacrifice and watch for God. You and I can be used by God when our hearts beat as His beats.
How about you?
How about you? Do you have a Quiet Time? Do you have a time when you come before the Lord? The greatest Man and the greatest men in history each had a period of time when they went before the Lord. They had a passion for God! I would encourage you to find that time when you go before the presence of God. Seek His face. Be still in His presence. Delight in the Law of the Lord. Make your sacrifice each day and wait for the Lord to act.
