Reading Plans, New and Improved

Since January, we have been working on a host of Phase 2 features. One of these has been a new and improved Bible Reading Plan system.  The new system not only allows us to add many more plans, it also allows us to add many different kinds of plans. Most of the work has been completed and you will begin to see a varied and comprehensive list of plans show up.  Along with the traditional Read thru the Bible plan, we just added:

  • Proverb a Day
  • 21 Day Challenge - Book of John

There will also be several different kinds of plans.

  • Day of the Month Plan - this kind of plan ties each day's reading to a day of the month.  For instance, on the 23rd of the month, you read Proverbs 23
  • Go At Your Own Pace Plan - These kind give you a list of reading and you read through it at your own pace.  If you read passage one on day one, but then don't get to read passage two until a week later, your reading plan will wait for you.  It won't keep going without you.
  • Daily Pace Plan - This plan allows you to start on the first passage of the plan on your first day reading, but then it progresses at a daily pace.  If you don't get back to your reading for 7 days, then you'll be on the seventh passage of plan.
  • Day of the Year Plan - This plan allows you to stay in sync with everyone else on the plan because it is connected to the day of the year.  So, if the plan starts on Jan. 1, everyone who starts the plan that day will start with the first passage.  But, if you don't start until February 1, then you would start on the 32nd day of the plan with everyone else.

We plan to add many more reading plans to each type over the coming weeks.

You can manage your reading plans by:

1)      Clicking on Account in the menu bar

2)      Clicking Account Settings in the drop down menu

3)      Clicking the Bible Reading tab in the account setting screen

I would love to be able to design my own reading plan...like what I do now is read a chapter of the gospels each day, read a proverb a day, and I read through a book each month (Example: If I read through 2 Timothy this month I will read 2 chapters of it each day which means I will read through the entire book about 15 times this month.) I would love to be able to set this up and have it hear on QTD.

It would be helpful to have a space to write notes next to the reading plans.

It would be so helpful if you could add a highlighting feature to the Bibles.

Mandy, letting folks add their own reading plans was actually a feature we had down to produce, but once we got into the process we backed away simply because of the data complexity and all the details related to getting the reading plans into the system. We do have it down to come back to this when we get some development time and at some point, we will provide away to get reading plans in.

Ruey and Christine. Thanks for the info, we will make a note of the ideas in our ideas file. We keep an extensive list of suggestions and will add them to that list.

I've been a software and website tester for many years and the word Beta on this package makes me hesitant to pay for it. I'm not denying that the end result would be worth the money. I'm just not sure I'm willing to pay for unstable software that might prove to be more frustrating than using a notebook and pen. I may join later because I am definitely an electronic format user.

@Jane .... the term Beta on the site has been used since we launched the product in May to denote the fact that it is in fact still in development. However, the word Beta, as used in a traditional sense does not indicate unstable. It is a feature complete release that is available before the official release of the software. The official release will coincide with the start of the 2011-2012 paper quiet time which is August 28th, 2011. At that time, the term Beta will no longer be used.

I loce the online quiet time. I have been using the book for 4 or 5 years now and this makes it even better. Is there going to be an app for android phones anytime soon?

Oh ya!! We are working on a solution for not only Android, but also iPhone and tablets

Mary Moore - 9/30/2011 I am doing the Bible reading in a year. It would be great if you could highlight sections that jump out at you (Word has a highlight feature.) Maybe even be able to jot some notes down to the left about how that verse(s) spoke to you. That would really allow some inductive study.

Hello! Can someone tell me what the 21 day challenge thing is? & how I can get to it? :)
Author: John Armstrong - 11/14/2011
Marissa, it is a reading plan that will show up in the reading tab in the Journal. You can add it by doing the following: 1) When in the Journal, click on the little wrench icon in the upper right which will take you to your account settings. Or click on the Account menu item in the menu bar followed by clicking on Account Settings. 2) When in your account settings click on the Bible Reading tab and add the 21 day challenge by checking the box next to it. It will now show up in your Bible Reading in the Journal.
