Edit the Frequency of a Friend's Prayer Request
05/31/2011 ~ 14 comments

You've been asking... AND IT'S FINALLY HERE!! You can now edit the frequency that you pray for a friend's request.  For instance, if your friend BILLY is praying for his mom, he probably wants to pray for her everyday.  But with all the requests you have to manage, you may only want to pray for Billy's mom once a week.  Now that's possible!

Simply go to your prayer journal and scroll down to the friend's section.  Click the plus sign to expand the request and then click the EDIT button.  Edit Prayer

You can also edit the frequency of a friend's request by clicking the MANAGE button manageat the bottom of your prayer journal which takes you to the Prayer Calendar.  Then, click the "Show/Hide" friends request button friends to see a list of all your friends.  Pick any of your friends and you'll see a list of their requests.  If you check off a request to pray for it, you'll immediately get a pop up that allows you to edit the frequency of the request.

When you are in the Community, if you click the iconPrayer Icon to add a friend's prayer request to your list, you will immediately be presented with pop up that will allow you to edit the frequency of the request.

The only thing you can edit is the frequency at which you pray for the request.  This is on purpose because the request actually belongs to your friend.  If they make updates or edits, we want to make sure you see those.  Thus, the only person who can edit the actual details of the request is the originator of the request.

Amazing Nathan! This is so much more flexible. This tool keeps getting better and better - and there's still so much more to come! WOW!

We have been working on all the ideas for more than 10 years, and the actual development since January of 2010. We keep an extensive list of tweeks and work on those as time and money permit.

I am having a problem stopping/removing prayer requests. I posted five prayer requests back in June and stopped them in mid and late July. They still show up to my accountability partner and friends. Is there a way to delete my previous prayer requests?

@Eric we;ll take a look at this and see if we can get it resolved. There may be some sort of glitch in here.

Hi QT Development Team! Great job on an amazing tool. I was wondering though... what happens to my Praises once I add them? They seem to disappear and I can't find them anywhere. I don't know if my friends can see them either. Thanks!

@Eric, we've done some testing with this and it appears everything is working correctly. If I have a request and someone else picks it up on their list and begins praying for it, but then later I delete the request, then it will delete automatically from their prayer lists as well. The one exception to this would be if they physically typed in the same requests as you. In that case it is actually a separate request and is not deleted when you delete your request.

@Joshua Day Thanks for your encouragement Josh, you are always very kind. Praises were designed to be sort of an "in context" way of praising the Lord. It was kind of modeled after the "status" update or a "tweet." With these kinds of micro-updates, your friends can see your praises in the context of your activity flow. For instance, if they go to the community, click on your name and then adjust the activity filter to praises, they'll see the praises you have posted. Also, when you enter a praise it adds it to your daily prayer list under Praise Reports. This way, if you search back through your prayer lists you can see which days you praised the Lord for any specific thing. After having thought through your question though, I'm thinking we might explore two different things here. First, we might put a list on a person's activity page (on the left under their prayer requests) that would list their praises. Second, I'm thinking we could add this to the social network connector so that when you praise, you could have your settings automatically post your praise to Facebook or Twitter.

@Nathan - Thanks for your response! I usually use the prayer tab on the Journal screen and when I enter a praise, it disappears from there. It would be awesome to have an obvious option right from that screen to show recent praises or link to a page with a historical record of praises... much like the praise page in the paper Quiet Time. God frequently told Israel in the OT that they were to remember that He brought them out of captivity in Egypt. That was to be their continual praise, and it would help them remember the great God they served. Thanks for reading! :-)

@Joshua, ok there may be some sort of an issue happening. Because, on my prayer tab on the journal screen, when I enter a praise, it shows up right on that page. Albeit, I have to scroll to the bottom of that list because it puts all the praises together at the bottom. And then, for a historical context, I can either look back through my calendar and look at the list for that day, or I can use the search function to find a particular praise. If yours is not working as I described, please send us an email at qt@wol.org and let us know your browser type and version and your OS. We'll try to recreate the glitch and get to the bottom of it.

Nathan, I have no active prayer requests. I added three on June 13 and stopped them on July 14th. On July 28th I added two and stopped them on July 30th. On August 8th I started getting messages that Tim Sytsma (my accountability partner) was praying for one of the June 13th requests and one of the July 28th requests. He did not even become my accountability partner until after August 1st. Is there a way to delete the stopped prayer requests or to reinstate them and stop them again. Almost daily I get the E-mail from my accountability partner that he is praying for these two requests. They are still on his list but I show 0 open prayer requests on my account. Are these five going to be there forever?

These prayer requests are still there. I show I have six stopped prayer requests and none active, but I am getting E-mail daily that my accountability partner is praying for the prayer requests. Is there any way to delete the stopped prayer requests? They are severely outdated.

Eric, whenever you have questions or issues, email them to QT@wol.org, that gets to us a little quicker. We'll dig in and see what is up and email you back.
